LOCAL ELECTIONS 2006

The Community Action Party wishes to thank the public of Wigan, St Helens and Warrington for showing their support during the local election campaign.  We have represented the public of Wigan and Leigh and will continue to do so.  We have lost Two hard working councillors in Debbie Grace (Hindley) and  Peter Solinas (Lowton East) but they will continue to work for the communities they have represented.   The good news for Lowton East is our success in having Ed Houlton, a long time Community Action Party member and activist in the communities of Lowton and Golborne, as a successful new councillor, in what was New Labour's strongest seat they were left third of three in the list.  The hard work of the Community Action Party  and our supporters have made us the strong party that we are today and this will benefit us and the people of Wigan in the coming years.

Our candidates, who did not win the seats in which they stood, fought hard and honestly and have everything to be proud of.  They also will continue to work in the Community Action Party and in their local communities and will be available to help and advise the public where New Labour continue to fail.  We may have seen New Labour out in force during the election campaign but, as so many of the public have told us, they are thin on the ground on every other occasion apart from photo shoots (usually alongside a local M.P.). New Labour have nothing to be proud of or happy about in this local election result and the Community Action Party will let them know that.

The Community Action Party will hold New Labour to account both inside Wigan Council and in the community at large.  New Labour fought a campaign of lies and deceit with the backing of the richest most powerful political machine in the country and must have called in a lot of favours into the bargain.  The Community Action Party will continue to expose the lies of New Labour in Wigan and will ensure that the people of Wigan are not deceived so blatantly in the future. Lack of resources will not stop the Community Action Party  from being the most active and credible opposition to New Labour in Wigan .  “

______________________________________________

New Labour are under siege, desperate after years of being unable to handle the effective opposition of the Community Action Party they have accepted the fact that they are on the brink of losing control of “Fortress Wigan”. They put out press releases and leaflets full of lies about the Community Action Party and our councillors because they have no achievements of their own to sell.

The Community Action Party has forced New Labour to react to our exposing of their lack of action on all of the issues of public concern. The Community Action Party have co-operated with the police and the community protection department to help achieve an overall reduction in crime in the Borough. Community Action Party councillors have proactively helped with youth and nuisance problems. We have fought for openness within the Council and its departments, questioning value for money and planning and engineering decisions. Community Action Party Councillors have ensured that the New Labour Cabinet is held to account on their decisions that affect our everyday lives.

The Community Action Party is set to take control away from New Labour in their heartland and bring honesty and integrity into our local politics. Public accountability has given way to secrecy and New Labour hidden decisions. In order to look as though New Labour are achieving something they undertake badly planned “flagship” projects which may leave us in debt in the future, without any benefit. Major road schemes costing millions of pounds which will solve no traffic problems and artworks, people do not want, on roundabouts merely because they are visible.

This election is your chance to change things for the better and ensure public accountability in the Borough of Wigan. New Labour will lose; they have no credibility or authority. The New Labour Councillors blindly follow the Party line whether or not they actually agree with it. The local New Labour MPs are no different, slavishly following their leader and ignoring local opinions and needs. They collect their pay and vote as ordered, repeating only the words allowed by their leader and his fat cat cronies.

In this local election on May 4th a vote for Community Action is a positive vote for change, a change for the better and a signal that you will not be satisfied with less.
