VOTE TO SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
  • Defeat New Labour plans to destroy or damage our Special Schools: Mere Oaks, Tanfield, Brookfield High, Atherton Two Porches, Wigan Montrose, and Atherton Green Hall.
VOTE FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND AGAINST THE A5225
  • Defeat New Labour plans for route A5225 that would blight our open spaces with more warehouses and bring thousands more HGV’S into the Borough to congest our roads.

VOTE AGAINST THE NEW LABOUR THREAT TO DEMOCRACY

  • New Labour, led by a Labour Lord, rules the Council with the votes of less than 11% of the electorate. Council meetings are a farce characterised by strict adherence to Government policy and Labour Councillors’ absolute obedience to party dictates however bad.
  • The leaked New Labour “campaign strategy” to win the 2004 local elections by infiltrating community groups and manipulating the press along with the malicious premeditated verbal attacks and smears on minority party Councillors is evidence of their dictatorial methods and dirty tricks.
  • The cynical exploitation by New Labour for their own agenda and advantage of issues of genuine local concern demonstrates their disregard for the people they are supposed to represent, particularly the most vulnerable.
  • The use of Council resources to keep New Labour in power, such as the subsidised premises in Leigh and Ashton for Labour Members of Parliament, is a scandalous misuse of Council taxpayers’ money for political purposes.
VOTE FOR THE ONLY REAL ALTERNATIVE
  • With five elected Councillors in just two years the Community Action Party has demonstrated itself to be the most dynamic and effective Wigan Council Opposition ever.
  • The Community Action Party has already proven that it can defeat Labour in their former traditional safe areas where all other parties have failed.
  • To abstain or vote for any other party would only keep Labour in power.
  • We want real democracy and fair treatment for all
VOTE FOR ZERO TOLERANCE OF CRIME & DISORDER
  • Law and order must be established on the streets by better and more effective policing, manned police stations and police on the beat.
  • It’s time for Zero Tolerance of drug dealers, vandals, arsonists, racists, thugs and thieves.
  • It’s time for a Borough wide ban of alcohol on the streets.
VOTE FOR YOUTH & COMMUNITY FACILITIES
  • It’s time for the provision of play, sports and social facilities in our communities.
VOTE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
  • We are opposed to the destruction of our heritage and the development of green field sites, playing fields, recreation land and sites and buildings of historic interest or importance.
  • We stand for the conservation and improvement of the natural environment and the protection of animals, wildlife, trees and plants.
VOTE FOR PUBLIC SERVICES & COMMUNITY ASSETS
  • We are against cuts in public services and the stripping of community assets by the sell-off of land, buildings and resources.
VOTE FOR URBAN REGENERATION
  • Priority must be focused on the regeneration of our existing town centres and shopping areas.
  • We want a return to Civic Pride and a sense of Community.
VOTE FOR ACTION
  • With no action from New Labour Councillors former Labour Mayor, Alderman Bernard Holt, requested and obtained the immediate help of a Community Action Party Councillor to remedy local environmental problems.
  • With no action from New Labour Councillors seventy seven year old New Labour Candidate, Martin King, requested and obtained the immediate intervention of a Community Action Party Councillor to resolve an issue of major importance.
